Perhaps what I love most about photographing a wedding is the role of “telling the story” in photos. I like to imagine that I am creatively documenting the day in a way that future generations will enjoy looking at. Perhaps a grand child will have a particular love for a certain photo because of the way her grandmother looked so blissfully happy and carefree in that moment, just after saying “I Do”. I know I love my Parents’ & Grandparents’ wedding photos for that reason. I always remember the one of my parents cutting their cake, because they look so handsome/beautiful and happy. And I LOVE the one of my grandfather scooping my grandmother up in his arms after their ceremony, because I’ve heard so many wonderful stories about their wedding, and the struggles it took to get there…the dusty black & white photo sort of “says it all” to me. So, yep, I’m sort of mushy and nostalgic, but I think that just might be a “plus” in this business.

Here are a few photos of Ryan and Jessica, just after their ceremony at Star Hill Ranch, in Austin. If you’ve ever been in a wedding, you know how it can get a little hectic trying to squeeze in all the right group photos between the ceremony and the reception. In our case, it was also raining a bit (yep, we’re standing in a light mist for some of these). But, look at this gorgeous couple – so cute, patient, and happy. I like these photos because they show a glimpse of their personalities, so calm and serene even if we were just told we only had a few minutes left for photos…

Katherine and I have known each other since we were six years old! We met on the neighborhood swim team, which quickly led to many a hot summer day spent running around bare foot at either of our parents' houses. We both moved around with our families before resettling in Houston. At 14, we were finally going to the same school, high school none-the-less. We were inseparable, along with a couple other wonderful friends. And, in many ways, all still are. So, we were thrilled to learn that she was marrying the Man of her dreams and, get this!, moving to Lebanon! Okay, we weren't thrilled about the moving part.

Katherine and I have known each other since we were six years old! We met on the neighborhood swim team, which led to many a hot summer day spent running around bare foot at either of our parents’ houses. We both moved around with our families before resettling in Houston. At 14, we were finally going to the same school, high school none-the-less. We were inseparable, along with a couple other wonderful friends. And, excepting our busy grown-up lives, we all still are. So, we were thrilled to learn that she was marrying the Man of her dreams and, get this!, moving to Lebanon! Okay, we weren’t thrilled about the moving part. But, then again, we know they will love it and so it’s hard not to be happy for that reason. Plus, I hear Skype is a pretty cool invention. I’ll have to become savvy with it.

I think you can see they both have infectious smiles. You wouldn’t even know it from the photos, but it rained on us part way through our photo session. We kept going through a few of the sprinkles (the two photos above were during that time frame) and then Katherine’s Hubby said, “Saved by Mother Nature!”. I thought that was so cute and funny. I think it’s common not to love posing for the camera…I know I don’t!

Here is a glimpse at the actual ceremony, held earlier the same day, at the Justice of the Peace…The officiant was awesome, by the way! He was so personable and made it so special and joyful for us all.

The 9 of us then went to Brennan’s Restaurant for a truly lovely brunch in celebration of the Newly-Weds. This was my first time to go to Brennan’s (the original one, I’m told, is in New Orleans) and it won’t be the last! It is one of my new favorite restaurants. They even make their own pralines. Who doesn’t love handmade pralines?…I don’t have any formal statistics on the matter, but I’m pretty sure everyone loves ‘em. At least everyone at our party did!

Alright, look out…the food here was amazing! I’m getting hungry just posting the photos…And, oh yes, that is my giant chocolate cake (below). Why am I always attracted to the least healthy thing on the dessert menu? Well, I just love chocolate. Again, who doesn’t?

Above: Our last name is Foster and so my husband thought he should show Baby O up close how Banana Fosters are made. Wow, they are delicious. I’d never had them before. See those three smiley girls above? That’s me (in purple), Katherine, and our other longtime best bud! Fun times.

Congratulations again, to my dear friend and her wonderful husband!

Clothing ideas are included for Mom, Dad, Big & Little Sis, and Big & Little Brother, BUT, the Mom & Dad outfits would work well for an Engagement Session as well. Etsy is a great resource for unique accessories too.

Gosh, they are so cute together…It seems like they couldn’t stop laughing or smiling at each other. After Herman Park, we went to Discovery Green. I didn’t even know, until we got there, that this is actually where Cris proposed! How fun! And it makes it all the more meaningful.

The evening light started taking a nose dive behind the buildings of Downtown, so we quickly caught a few more and then called it a wrap. I think they went out for yummy Turkish food afterwards, since they were all spiffed up, and needing some place to go. Congrats again, Cris & Kaitlin!

I was honored to attend Jackie & Shaun’s Engagement Party…It was gorgeous and literally everyone there {family and friends} were the nicest people you could imagine. I was so impressed at how many people serenaded the lovely couple…what a talented group! I’m posting a few of my favorite photos, taken when we snuck off for a few cozy engagement-style shots of just the two of them. It was the middle of a blazing-bright day, so not ideal conditions for an outdoor portrait session, but we managed to find some shade with some directional light and I was quite pleased! {I loved the edge lighting provided by the sun in these photos…And how incredibly happy Jackie looks in the first one.} …

Geez, what a cute couple! Congratulations, Shaun & Jackie!
