One thing I love about Capri is that you get a real sense that you are eating in-season…You never know when a neighbor is going to deliver a basketful of their latest crop or when your Grandmother, for that matter, is going to declare that today it’s time to harvest the fig tree or the orange tree, or the tomato plants, etc. I love the challenge of coming up with (or watching my Mom and Grandmother come up with) creative ways to use the foods when you are usually faced with an excess of one or two types of foods at a time. Canning is very popular. So is making wine or meads (basically fruit wines, I believe). On this particular day, it was time to harvest the plum trees!…

You basically know it’s time to harvest the plum trees when they become so juicy and sweet that you and your baby can’t help but pick them off the tree and munch on them every time you walk by.

Ah, happy little family…

Below, my Dad is showing off his hard work…And my Husband is doing I don’t know what…I think he was getting his “game face” on, since he and my Dad were jokingly in some kind of competition to see who could pick the most plums…

Baby O may have been able to compete if she weren’t determined to eat every plum she picked!

Yum Yum Yum

So, the plan was to make plum wine from this harvest, and here is the funny part…My Dad thought it would be cool to get Baby O to stomp the plums for a photo op. I suspect he might print this for the wine’s label, when it’s ready for bottling…She seemed more than happy to cooperate!

L’eau d’ Baby Feet…

Doesn’t it look delicious??
